As I think back on my life before transitioning to an Alkaline Vegan Lifestyle, a few words that come to mind are depressed, lonely, inadequate, sluggish, and uncomfortable. About 3 years before my journey began, I remember being at a very low place. I was eating out of control and had a very unstructured diet. This way of living added pounds, discomfort, and dis-ease to my body.
I found myself frustrated and angry every time I walked into my closet. I had so many clothes that I could no longer fit and having to purchase new clothing was even more depressing. Shopping for new clothes gave me a reality check on how much weight I had actually gained. I knew that something needed to be done, but I had no motivation or guidance to get me there.
It was a yearly routine Dr.'s visit that opened my eyes and made me realize that it was more than just my weight that needed to be changed. After the visit, I received my bloodwork results, which concluded that I was borderline diabetic and had high cholesterol levels. I had also been complaining about pain in my knees. The doctor revealed that I had arthritis in both knees and was considered obese. I knew that medication was not my answer and that it was going to take a lifestyle transformation to help start my healing process. I had no idea what this would consist of, but I knew it would be worth it.
I spoke with my daughter and we created a plan of action. First I did two five-day water fasts, followed by two weeks of jucing, then finally 1 week of raw fasting. After months of on and off fasting, I started to eat from the Alkaline Nutritional Guide. This resulted in me reversing all of my illnesses and dropping 50 pounds.
This journey has transformed my mind, built my confidence, and healed my body. I have been following the alkaline vegan lifestyle for over 2 years and have managed to maintain my weight and be free of medication and sickness. At the age of 58, I can say that I feel younger than I did 10 years ago.
I am grateful for this journey and I am proud of the effort that I put into the process to get me to where I am today. I encourage you to evaluate your life and figure out what it is going to take to push you to make the first step.
